We see the world through the distinctions we choose to draw. Julie Zhuo made two distinctions already in her post’s headline that are the most important ones in product development:
Problem vs solution
Essence vs symptoms
Over and over again, we get into passionate discussions and jump to conclusions where we haven’t really understand the problem to be solved in the first place.
And we do A/B tests and iterate on little things where we haven’t yet understood the underlying essence of the situation at hand.
For great work, we need a theory deep enough to make complexity manageable.
